Do you watch the “super serious” teams on the dropzone and wish you could try it – but without all the stress and drama? The fantastic thing about teams is that you get to define the group purpose. Not everyone needs to be crazy intense or super competitive to enjoy all the camaraderie and great skydiving a team provides.
Competing is optional
Doing competition-style 4way and 8way is really fun. I spend my whole life doing it, and I want more! While I find competitions exciting, I understand not everyone does. You don’t have to go to a big meet (or even a small one) to build points and move together in a fulfilling way. Just enjoy the dance!
Get Mo’ Better
No matter what your skydiving plans are, you probably want to improve. It is satisfying to increase your skills, and it opens up doing all kinds of significant unique events.
There is no better way to get good at formations skydiving than training 4way or 8way. Small group practice is king if you want to get better at general belly skills or big way skills. The control, awareness, and discipline you repeatedly practice with 4way translate into bigways.
Teams are super fun
Being on a team is a blast. It is a great way to create great friendships and hang out with cool people. The bonds I have with my teammates are one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
Keep Skydiving
Without a direction, skydivers lose interest. Losing goals is one of the reasons people leave the sport after a couple of hundred jumps – once you have mastered the idea of falling and landing, now what? Having team plans helps you keep moving forward in the sport and gives you a great reason to plan your skydiving season.
Competition, maybe?
I know I said earlier that you do not need to compete. BUT if you are with the right group of people and your attitude is good, competitions are fantastic. Nothing beats the feeling of round one at a big meet, and I feel everyone can learn to enjoy this given the right environment.
If you are looking for a way to get better, develop great friends, and have controlled meaningful skydives, create a casual-style team. Friendly and chill vibes are not at odds with 4-way and 8way – they are a perfect match!
